Outpatient Mental Health Therapy Department provides mental health counseling and psychiatric services to children and families who have concerns about mental, emotional or behavioral issues. Children may show distress through depression, anxiety, school failure, sleep and eating disorder, these issues may stem from family violence, divorce, sexual abuse, abandonment, parental abuse or drugs or alcohol, and foster care placement.

Individual and Family Counseling: We provide client-centered, family-focused counseling to clients in the home, school, community or in the office. Counseling focuses on the stabilization of families and resolving issues that inhibit children from doing well.

Therapeutic Summer Camp: Interactive Summer Camp for children with mental health, emotional and/or behavioral needs. Treatment goals for camp are created with primary therapist and individualized for each client enrolled in camp. Goals may include improving social skills, cognitive flexibility, frustration tolerance or emotional regulation. Small group sizes (5-7 clients). For children 5-11 years old. Monday through Friday 9am to 1pm. Activities may include: art, group games, cooking, and nature hikes.

Court Mandated Co-Parenting Program - Program to support parents and children through the trauma of divorce or separation helping parents address their children’s needs during and after divorce. This three-hour one time class is offered twice per month. $45 per parent.

Psychiatric Evaluation, Consultation and Medication Management (ages 3-17): A psychiatrist or Nurse Practiner will perform a 90 minute psychiatric assessment to clarify part treatment efficiency, current issues (social, academic, legal) contributing medical problems, and psychiatric diagnoses. A comprehensive plan will be formulated, including medication management when necessary, and the client will be followed on a regular bases until stable and care can be transferred back to the PCP.

ChildSafe Program: Provides treatment for children andadolescents who have been sexually abused and provides support for their families (ages 3-17)

Therapeutic Groups: Providing Group Therapy experiences for children and families. Group size is limited to 10 people. Children and family members must be enrolled as clients at Old Mill Center or have a primary therapist in the community. Not all groups run at all times. All groups are facilitated by Master’s Level therapists. Groups that will be happening in the 2009-2010 school year include:
- Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) Parent Education Group: We believe Children Do Well if They Can, and we will help parents understand the CPS model and how to implement it with their children. CPS is evidence-based.
- Divorce Group: Helping children and families cope with divorce. Child and parents are separated.
- Social Skills Group: This group helps children learn and practice positive, age appropriate peer interactions in a fun, hands-on way.
- Parent-2-Parent: A parent education and support group that helps parents connect with one another while learning new parenting skills.
- Teen Process and Education Group: Connecting teens in a supportive, educational environment to improve coping skills, emotional regulation and cognitive flexibility.
