Our History and Mission
Our Founder...
Thirty years ago Bev Larson had a dream to help children with physical disabilities and emotional challenges learn how to cope and survive in today's world. It began with a preschool integrating typically developing and special needs kids. Dr. Larson realized that bringing these diverse children together provided a unique foundation of learning while developing such core values as acceptance, compassion and understanding. Bev Larson is considered to be a pioneer in her field, and was one of the first in the nation to use such a bold approach with children. This model program has been duplicated in the United States and other countries.
The vision is a reality. Old Mill has grown from serving 8 families in 1977 to serving 1,500 in 2005. In answer to our communities ever-changing needs, Dr. Larson has brought together services that address the educational, social, emotional, and family needs of a diverse population of families and children. The unique range of services - and the interrelationship between those services - allows the staff of Old Mill to provide multi-leveled, individualized and group support to at-risk children, from birth to 18, and their families. We are committed to providing critical services that would otherwise not be offered in the community.

At Old Mill Center, we believe that children have the best chance to succeed if they have a strong foundation for the future. We recognize and celebrate each child's unique gifts and strengths. Old Mill offers a welcoming place for children to learn and play in a nurturing, supportive preschool environment. "Every child is special to us" says Bev Larson, founder of Old Mill.
